Will the Texas Rangers Make History in This Year’s World Series?
The Texas Rangers are the big story of the MLB in 2012, as they have just won their second straight AL pennant. Though it seemed as if the Red Sox, Yankees and Phillies were the talk of the league just a few weeks ago, the scene has changed and now it’s confirmed that the Texas Rangers will play the St. Louis Cardinals in a best of seven playoff. The games will begin October 19, 2011.
The Texas Rangers are new to such year-end festivities, as they have only reached AL pennants twice in their career, in 2010 and 2011. (However, they did flirt with greatness by winning three West Divisional Titles back in the late 1990s) If the Rangers defeat the Cardinals, it will be the first World Series Texas has ever won.
The competition is intense though, as the Cardinals will make their 18th appearance for a championship game. The game will be decided in St. Louis’ backyard, which could be a deciding factor. However, don’t discount Texas who is fighting for Texas pride (which the Dallas Cowboys have fumbled quite a few times). The Rangers actually started the season at a slow to average pace, coming across as formidable, but not the talk of the town. Over the course of the MLB season, however, they won the AL West and defeated many high caliber teams to qualify for the World Series.
Just a short time ago, the Rangers were in managerial hell, even facing bankruptcy. However, they have come a long way thanks to outstanding leadership from Ron Washington and Jon Daniels. Their latest good fortune is all the more impressive considering they don’t have the money of the Yankees or even the Red Sox, and yet are making all the right moves.
The Texas Rangers certainly deserve to win the World Series, if not for the sake of history and groundbreaking territory, then at least for playing all those games in the blazing Texas heat–one of the hottest summers in Texas baseball history! Who are you predicting to win the World Series? Is this finally going to be Nolan Ryan’s favorite year or is Texas simply building a strong team so that the multiple championship team St. Louis can shine?
