Will Smith Coming Back to the Music Scene

You may think now that Will Smith is a multimillionaire and could get any part in any movie he wanted, he’d never think of going back to his career as a rap artist. But six years after his last album was released, that’s exactly what Smith plans to do.

Of course, Will Smith first became a household name when he teamed up with childhood chum, DJ Jazzy Jeff to put out huge rap hits like “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” and “Summertime.” Then Will got one of his biggest breaks on the hit TV show Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and from there it was all history. The actor went on to play big parts in big movies such as Independence Day and The Pursuit of Happyness. So with all the big-screen success, why would Will Smith ever go back to rap?

Maybe it’s just a yearning to return to his roots. Or maybe it’s to try and top the 14 million albums that his debut solo album, Big Willie Style, raked in. Perhaps it’s just an attempt to make up for the disappointing response to his last solo album, Lost and Found, which was released in 2005 and barely went gold. Whatever the reason, one thing is clear — Will Smith is going to come out with a new rap album. Just when that album will be out is still unknown, as work on the album is in the very, very early stages. But Will is interested in putting his rap style to the test once again, and hip hop producer La Mar “Mars” Edwards also has faith, telling XXL Magazine that they were working on “bringing him back.”

Perhaps one day soon we’ll see both Will and Willow Smith sitting beside each other on top of the charts?
