Warriors sign Thompson to contract extension
Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Golden State Warriors have reached an agreement with Klay Thompson on a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Friday.
Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced.
According to multiple sources, however, the extension is a max deal projected to be in the $70 million range.
“We’re excited to have one of the top young players in the NBA under contract for the next several years,” said Warriors general manager Bob Myers. “Our ownership group continues to demonstrate the commitment necessary to build a championship caliber team and we anticipate Klay Thompson will play a major role in our future success and accomplishments, both on the floor and in the Bay Area community.”
The 24-year-old sharpshooter out of Washington State has been a model of consistency for Golden State, appearing in 230 of the team’s 231 regular- season games over his three-plus seasons.
Thompson has averaged 16.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting at a 40.9 percent clip from beyond the arc. He made 545 3-pointers during his first three full seasons with Golden State, the most during a player’s first three years in league history.
