War Story scratched from Southwest, probable for Risen Star
New Orleans. LA (SportsNetwork.com) – Lecomte Stakes runner-up War Story will be making his way back to Fair Grounds in time to start in the $400,000 Risen Star Stakes on Feb. 21.
Owned by Loooch Racing Stable and Chris Dunn, War Story was all set to start in Monday’s $300,000 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park but drew post 11 in what was a 12-horse field.
“It just didn’t work out,” trainer Tom Amoss said. “We drew an outside post position and there’s a strong statistical negative to that post. Plus, there’s a forecast for dicey weather on Monday. He worked quite well at Oaklawn (on Wednesday).”
War Story was second to International Star in the Lecomte after starting from post 4 in the 11-horse race.
“He didn’t break well and was widest of all turning for home,” Amoss said about War Story’s race. “He came out good, though. I was pleased even though we didn’t win.”
War Story, a chestnut gelding, had been purchased by his current owners, between his first and second races.
