Eden Prairie, MN (SportsNetwork.com) – Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel will miss the remainder of the season after being placed on injured reserve Wednesday because of a foot injury.

Cassel suffered fractured bones in his left foot during Sunday’s game against New Orleans. He was hurt while trying to scramble for a first down early in the second quarter of the 20-9 loss.

Rookie Teddy Bridgewater took over under center and was 12-of-20 passing for 150 yards in his first action. He is slated to make his first NFL start on Sunday against Atlanta.

“I’ve been able to sit behind Matt and learn,” said Bridgewater on Wednesday. “I’m just going to try to use the advice Matt has given me and try to be even better.”

Cassel, in his second season with the Vikings, completed 41-of-71 passes for 425 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions in three games.

The Vikings also placed guard Brandon Fusco on IR with a pectoral injury. He had started the first three games this season and all 34 games he has played for Minnesota since the 2012 campaign.

Minnesota also promoted tight end Chase Ford and offensive lineman Austin Wentworth from the practice squad to the active roster, and signed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson and tight end Ryan Otten to the practice squad.
