Velasquez cruises to 6-shot win in Colombia
Bogota, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) – Diego Velasquez fired a 6-under 65 on Sunday and rolled to a 6-stroke win at the Colombia Open.
Velasquez finished at 18-under-par 266. This was his first PGA Tour Latinoamerica victory, and just his third top-10 finish in 27 tour starts.
The Colombian got off to a quick start with birdies at one and three. He moved to 15-under thanks to a birdie at the par-3 seventh. Velasquez birdied three of five holes from the 13th en route to the easy win.
Alex Moon was just three back at the turn, but played the final nine in even- par. He closed with a 2-under 69 and finished alone in second at minus-12.
Juan P. Luna also shot 65 to match Velasquez for the low round of the day. Luna shared third place at 7-under-par 277 with Nathan Lashley (74) and Daniel Mazziotta (72). Rodolfo Cazaubon (74) took sixth at minus-6.
