Untapable wraps up works for Mother Goose
Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Kentucky Oaks winner Untapable had her final workout Monday morning at Churchill Downs for Saturday’s $300,000 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Untapable worked four furlongs over Churchill’s main track in 49 3/5 seconds and galloped out five furlongs in 1:03.
“We’re just trying to stay in a nice rhythm with her – keep her happy and comfortable,” Asmussen said. “I thought she went over the racetrack well. It was a pretty warm morning – a little humid – but all is good.
“She’s special. You realize how fortunate we are to be around her. She’s just a tremendous talent and it’s exciting and fun to have her.”
Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, Untapable won the Kentucky Oaks by 4 1/2 lengths with Rosie Napravnik riding. Napravnik was injured on Sunday, June 15 during training hours and will not be available for the 1 1/16-mile Mother Goose. Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez has picked up the mount.
Untapable began the year with consecutive victories at Fair Grounds in the Rachel Alexandra and Fair Grounds Oaks. She has earned $1,124,725 in seven lifetime starts with five wins.
