UCLA Bruins Win in an Amazing Comeback Over Nebraska
One of the most exciting college teams to watch, especially for alumni, is the UCLA Bruins. When the familiar blue and gold clad warriors hit the field, it’s always going to be a good game, and they certainly proved that to be true during their recent game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The game, played at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, NE, started out as a real nail biter, with the first half going the way of the Cornhuskers. By the end of the first half, the score was 21 to 3, as Nebraska decimated the UCLA defense, running through them easily. Nebraska was ready for this game.
The Bruins did not bow down before their opponents though. The team was playing through a range of emotions, having recently lost one of their team members, Nick Pasqual. The popular receiver, just twenty years old, was struck and killed by a vehicle only days before the September 14 game. The team was mourning their loss and still trying to honor Pasqual by playing their best. In the first half, the missed assignments and poorly thrown passes made it seem as though the team was unable to focus. This would certainly be understandable given the circumstances.
Yet, something changed right before halftime. The Bruins got the ball back with just over two minutes in the half. They found themselves in a third and twelve situation quickly, and there was just one shot left to make something of the half. Brett Hundley got the ball, evaded two of Nebraska’s linemen and picked up a thirteen-yard gain, extending the drive. Several plays later, Paul Perkins rushed for a touchdown, cutting the lead to 21 to 10.
The Bruins who emerged from the locker room after halftime seemed like a different team. The QB threw for 141 yards and three unanswered touchdowns. They scored a field goal later to bring the final score to 41 to 21 over Nebraska.
