Tyler Perry Returns with “Madea Gets A Job”
By now, everyone knows of the fictional character Madea, created by the very talented Tyler Perry. What you may not know is that a very funny new play called Madea Gets a Job going on tour right now! Don’t miss your opportunity for some laugh out loud fun and toe tapping music, for a change.
Perry is now one of the highest paid men in entertainment, though his beginnings were not that grand. He spent all his life savings on a community theater piece called “I know I’ve Been Changed”. Reviews were not glowing, but that did not stop Perry, as he went on to rewrite the piece over and over until it was finally successful and he began gaining quite an enthusiastic following, with reports of over $100 million dollars in tickets being sold. Perry soon moved on to film, and with a budget of $5.5 million ended up grossing $50.6 million for his very first film Diary of a Mad Black Woman starring Perry as Madea, a cantankerous older woman who mayhem follows. “Madea’s Family Reunion”, “Daddy’s Little Girls”, “Why Did I Get Married”, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” and other films soon followed.
Perry and Madea have once again returned to the stage, where he enjoys not only being an actor but the director, writer and producer of the show as well. The story line has Madea (not willingly) finding employment in a nursing home. Right away audiences can tell this play is different. Perry will often directly talk to the audience, heckling late comers, laughing, and generally having a good time, all the while teaching some good life lessons for those willing to see them. Did we forget to mention the music? Your toes are sure to be tapping to the end of this play as Madea, other cast members and the band all enjoy jamming.
