Reggie Baker paced Newman with 14 points and Cortrael Colbert finished with 12 points and four rebounds in defeat. The Jets, who won their first two games, won’t have the loss count against the their record since they counted it as an exhibition matchup.

San Juan, PR (SportsNetwork.com) – Juwan Staten scored 23 points and West Virginia stayed unbeaten with a 78-68 upset of No. 17 Connecticut in the finals of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Jonathan Holton and Daxter Miles Jr. scored 10 points apiece for WVU (5-0), which became the first team to take down the defending National Champs this season. The Mountaineers beat George Mason and Boston College to reach the championship in San Juan. Turnovers and 3-point shooting plagued UConn (3-1), which had won nine straight games dating back to last season. Freshman Daniel Hamilton had eight of the 19 Huskies turnovers, and they shot just 3-for-17 from behind the arc as a team. Ryan Boatright scored 17 points and Hamilton had 15 with 11 boards in the setback.

Ryan Spangler, Jordan Woodard and Dinjiyl Walker each scored 13 points. Zeek Woodley ended with 26 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Demons (2-2), who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Marvin Frazier had 11 points and seven boards.

Russell shot 12-for-21, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range, Shannon Scott had 11 points and a school-record 16 assists and Sam Thompson and Jae’Sean Tate each chipped in 12 points for the Buckeyes (3-0), who were coming off a 74-63 win over Marquette. Filip Nowicki finished with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Pioneers (1-2), who lost their second straight game.
