Titans QB Mettenberger exits early
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger left Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans after taking a hit from J.J. Watt in the third quarter.
Mettenberger’s pass had already been away when Watt took two steps, tackled the vulnerable QB and landed with his full weight on top of him.
No flag was thrown on the play.
Mettenberger stayed on the ground for several minutes before gingerly walking to the sideline. He made his way to the locker room favoring his right shoulder.
After the game, Mettenberger said he had a Grade 1 AC sprain and will be getting an MRI on Monday.
“I’m a pretty tough guy. I think I will be able to come back next week,” Mettenberger added.
Jake Locker, who was replaced by Mettenberger as the Titans’ starter last month, came on in relief, and his first pass was intercepted.
The Titans were losing, 24-7, at the time of Mettenberger’s injury and lost 45-21.
The rookie threw for 184 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
