Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera had surgery this week on injuries to his right ankle and foot, the team said Friday.

The procedure to remove bone spurs in his ankle and repair a stress fracture to his navicular bone occurred Wednesday in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Cabrera will be reevaluated in three months.

The two-time reigning American League MVP batted .313 in 159 games this past season with a .371 on-base percentage and 25 home runs, his fewest total since he was a rookie in 2003.

He hit .364 in the AL Division Series against Baltimore, which swept Detroit in three games.
