The MTV EMA Awards Shocked but Didn’t Surprise
The MTV EMA Awards (European Music Awards) took place this past week, and though artists shocked the world as expected, there were actually few “surprises.” The show was held in Belfast, Northern Ireland, amongst a particularly rowdy Irish bunch. What a perfect crowd to honor Lady Gaga, who took home four of the biggest awards, including Best Female, Best Song, Best Video, and Biggest Fan, a new award which honors the artist’s most committed fan base.
Lady Gaga calls her fan base “Little Monsters”, and there are tons of them to be sure. She has over 15 million Twitter followers and nearly 45 million “likes” on Facebook. Her YouTube Channel has been seen over 158 million times. And of course, that tally is not even considering her unofficial fan pages, MTV (American) Awards, Grammys, and of course, her 14 million sold copies of The Fame album.
Besides Gaga, the other big news of the night was the “streaker” who did his business while Hayden Panettiere was just about to reveal the winner of Best Song. Just for your information, it is likely the streaker was “arranged”, as this is MTV Europe, hardly the stuffy type of event that you would expect at the Academy Awards.
Besides Gaga, the other big winners of the night were Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, who took him home two awards each. The show aired on MTV’s network and potentially reached somewhere near 640 million global households, with syndication. The MTV EMAs were first created in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to help push the American artists to the European market.
You can catch all of your favorite singers live and in person here in the states, whether you prefer electro-pop sensation Lady Gaga, the sweet and soulful Bruno Mars or the teen-dream Justin Bieber. Contrary to rumors about Justin Bieber breaking up with Selena Gomez because of baby-making allegations, Justin Bieber was partying with Selena and LMFAO after the show. Unfortunately, the MTV EMA streaker is not returning calls or booking appearances.
Why not experience the sounds of your favorite MTV performer live and in person?
