Texas Red puts in work ahead of 2015 debut
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red had a six-furlong workout Saturday morning at Santa Anita in preparation for his 3-year-old debut in the San Vicente Stakes on Feb 1.
Trained by Keith Desormeaux, Texas Red and jockey Kent Desormeaux covered the six furlongs in 1:14, nearly four seconds faster than last Saturday’s six furlong work.
“He had a nice, strong, eventful work,” said the trainer about the colt that won the Juvenile as a 13-1 longshot. “Some horse joined the group at the half- mile pole and made it more exciting. My horse finished real strong; this gets us where we want to be. The first work was slow, so this was more to re- familiarize him with the gate. Today was the real thing.”
Texas Red has two wins, a second and a third from five starts for $1,192,300.
