Texans QB Fitzpatrick exits with leg injury
Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) – Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick exited Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts in the second quarter with an apparent left leg injury.
On a 2nd-down scramble, Fitzpatrick ran left and picked up two yards before being hit by Jonathan Newsome and Arthur Jones. He remained on the ground and after being examined by team personnel, was carted off the field with an air cast on his leg.
The Texans quickly announced he was out for the remainder of the game.
Fitzpatrick was replaced by rookie Tom Savage, a fourth-round pick from Pittsburgh who previously had not taken an NFL regular-season snap.
Although he led Houston with 2,453 passing yards and 17 touchdown throws prior to the game, Fitzpatrick was benched for Ryan Mallett earlier in the season. He returned to a starting role after Mallett went down with a season-ending pectoral injury against Cincinnati on Nov. 23.
