Terps rout SCarolina to reach super regionals
Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) – Blake Schmit had two hits, three RBI and scored twice and Maryland coasted into the NCAA super regionals with a 10-1 win over South Carolina on Sunday night.
The Terrapins, seeded No. 2 in their regional, moved through the pod without a loss in three games, beating top-seeded South Carolina twice.
They had snapped the Gamecocks’ 28-game postseason home winning streak with a 4-3 win on Saturday.
They will face Virginia in the super regionals.
South Carolina routed No. 4 seed Campbell 9-0 earlier on Sunday to advance to the regional final and would have had to beat Maryland twice to move on.
The regional’s No. 3 seed was Old Dominion, which was knocked out after losing its first two games.
South Carolina won back-to-back College World Series titles in 2010-11.
