Suzuki claims Konica Minolta Cup title
Miki, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) – Ai Suzuki fired a final-round 71 on Sunday to claim a 1-shot victory at the Konica Minolta Cup.
Suzuki rebounded from a tough day on Saturday and she finished the week at 5- under-par 283. At 20 years old, Suzuki is the youngest champion in tournament history.
Back-to-back birdies on one and two got Suzuki rolling early. After two straight pars, Suzuki tripped to her first bogey of the day on the fifth hole.
She responded quickly, however, by pouring in two more birdies on six and seven. Suzuki rounded out her front nine with a par on the eighth and a bogey at the ninth as she made the turn at 2-under.
It was a quieter back nine for Suzuki as she started with six straight pars before making her third bogey on No. 16. A birdie on the par-4 17th proved to be huge as Suzuki tripped to a bogey at the last to end with a 1-shot victory.
