Sioux Falls, SD (SportsNetwork.com) – Brandon Bos poured in 29 points for the Coyotes as the No. 5 seed South Dakota held off the fourth-seeded IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons off for an 82-73 victory in the opening round of the Summit League Tournament at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

James Hunter chipped in 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor for South Dakota (17-15), which will advance to face the top-seeded South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the semifinals. Casey Kasperbauer added 12 points, Tyler Larson pulled down nine rebounds and Trey Norris handed out eight assists for the Coyotes.

Joe Edwards led IPFW (16-14) with 16 points. Steve Forbes and Max Landis provided 14 points each, and Mo Evans scored 13 points. Isaiah McCray finished with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists in the losing effort.

The Coyotes dominated the opening stanza en route to a 44-23 halftime lead. USD knocked down 6-of-9 attempts from 3-point range and outrebounded the Mastodons, 19-10, in the first half. IPFW went just 1-of-7 from behind the 3- point line before the break.

The Mastodons heated up to convert 8-of-20 tries from 3-point range and assisted nine of their 16 makes from the floor after halftime. IPFW managed to narrow the deficit to five points at 74-69 with just over a minute remaining in regulation, but it was unable to make it a one-possession game at any point during the second period.

The Coyotes outscored IPFW, 22-14, at the free-throw line.

Final Score: Oral Roberts 58, IUPUI 56

Sioux Falls, SD (SportsNetwork.com) – Obi Emegano finished with 14 points as the third-seeded Oral Roberts Golden Eagles held on for a 58-56 win over the No. 6 seeded IUPUI Jaguars in the opening round of the Summit League Tournament at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

Aaron Young and Bobby Word contributed 10 points apiece for Oral Roberts (18-13), which will advance to take on the second-seeded North Dakota State Bison in the semifinals round. Denell Henderson led the Golden Eagles on the glass with seven boards.

Khufu Najee paced IUPUI (10-21) with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, while DavRon Williams registered a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds.

The Jaguars went into the intermission trailing, 27-25, after being outscored ORU, 12-0, from 3-point range in the opening period. IUPUI was limited to 32.1 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

The Golden Eagles converted 13-of-16 tries at the free-throw line in the second stanza. Facing a 57-54 deficit with only seconds showing on the game clock, Williams made a layup to make it a one-point game. Adrion Webber converted the first of two free-throw attempts on the other end to cushion ORU’s lead and IUPUI failed to get off another shot attempt.

The Golden Eagles outscored the Jaguars, 18-10, at the free-throw line and managed to advance despite committing 14 turnovers compared to only seven by IUPUI.
