Stevenson retains WBC title
Quebec City, QC (SportsNetwork.com) – Adonis Stevenson defended his WBC light heavyweight title on Saturday with a sixth-round TKO over mandatory challenger Tony Bellew.
Stevenson (22-1, 19 KOs), who has successfully defended his title twice, landed a hard left hand to the head of Bellew, snapping the contender’s head back and rendering him completely defenseless. With Bellew unable to defend himself, the referee was forced to step in and stop the fight.
Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KOs) was knocked to the mat earlier in the round.
Undefeated WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21 KOs) recorded a second-round knockout of Ismayl Sillakh (21-2, 17KOs).
Sillakh appeared to have the upperhand in the first round, but 50 seconds into the second Kovalev landed a huge right before two quick lefts and nearly knocked Sillakh out of the ring.
