Stanford gives Dawkins extension
Stanford, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Stanford men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins, coming off a Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament, has received a contract extension, the school announced Wednesday.
As a No. 10 seed, Stanford made the regional finals for only the fifth time, beating No. 7 New Mexico and No. 2 Kansas before falling to Dayton.
Terms of Dawkins’ extension were not released. He has coached the Cardinal for the past six seasons and received an extension in July 2011 that was to keep him locked up until 2015-16.
“Johnny Dawkins is a phenomenal educator and tireless worker,” said athletic director Bernard Muir. “Our on-court success last year combined with ongoing academic accomplishments and the overall development of our student-athletes illustrates Johnny’s ability to lead this program into the future.”
Dawkins has a 117-87 record in his six seasons at Stanford.
