For anyone who loves the music of the late 1960s is probably quite familiar with the work of Janis Joplin, one of the most incredible talents to hit the scene. She rose to stardom quickly and soon became one of the era’s most popular performers. Like too many of the musical stars of the 60s though, her life ended far too early. Now, thanks to Broadway musical A Night with Janis Joplin, you can take a trip back in time to see what it might have been like to have been a part of the times when Janis was Queen.

Mary Bridget Davies takes on the role of Joplin in this musical and does a remarkable job of bringing that same raw power to the stage. The show includes some of those all time favorites such as “Piece of My Heart”, “Cry Baby”, “Mercedes Benz”, and “Me and Bobby McGee”. The musical touches on some of the other stars of yesteryear as well, including those who were huge influences to Joplin, namely Etta James and Aretha Franklin.

The musical takes you on a journey you will not soon forget. Keep in mind that the musical does have some strong language, so you might not want to bring the kids along with you. They recommend that any children who come to the musical be at least eleven years old. You can use your best judgment. A Night with Janis Joplin is a great time for the adults. Whether you listened to the music of Joplin when it was fresh and new on the radio, or you got into Joplin and the 60s era years after it happened, you will find a lot to love.

Everything about the show is perfect. It looks great, and most importantly, it sounds great. If you are going to be coming to New York and you want to see a show on Broadway that’s a bit different from the norm, you really do want to make it a point to see A Night with Janis Joplin. It will stick with you just like Janis’s music does. Get tickets soon.
