Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Wendell Lewis amassed 22 points and nine rebounds in Alabama State’s 93-81 win over Mississippi Valley State in a SWAC Tournament quarterfinal.

Jamel Waters recorded 20 points to help the second-seeded Hornets (19-9) advance to Friday’s semifinals, where they’ll await the winner of Thursday’s matchup between Southern and Alabama A&M. Maurice Strong finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the victors.

Isaac Williams led the seventh-seeded Delta Devils (6-26) with 19 points, while Jeffrey Simmons had 15 points in defeat.

Alabama State trailed by one late in the first half before going on a 10-3 run to grab a 50-44 lead with 11 seconds to go in the period.

Vacha Vaughn’s layup brought the Delta Devils within four at the break, but Mississippi Valley shot just 36.4 percent for the second half. The Hornets opened the frame on a 12-2 surge and later built a lead as large as 26 points.

Final Score: Texas Southern 95, Alcorn State 74

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Malcolm Riley registered a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Texas Southern Tigers ran away from the Alcorn State Braves, 95-74, in the quarterfinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament at the Toyota Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the top-seeded Tigers (20-12) were Madarious Gibbs with 18 points, Deverell Biggs and David Blanks 14 apiece and Chris Thomas 10 points, to go along with 12 rebounds. With the victory, Texas Southern is now into the semifinals of the tourney on Friday and will await the winner of the Jackson State/Prairie View meeting on Thursday.

The eighth-seeded Braves (6-26) were paced by LeAntwan Luckett with 21 points, Tamarcio Wilson 15, Marquis Vance 13 points and Mike Davis 12 in the losing cause.

In order to combat 15 turnovers, Texas Southern converted 57.4 percent from the floor, which included 7-of-10 behind the 3-point line.
