Shared Belief moving toward Big ‘Cap
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Leading thoroughbred Shared Belief will be heading to Santa Anita next week for the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap on March 7
Trained and co-owned by Jerry Hollendorfer, Shared Belief will make his second start of the year in the 1 1/4-mile Big ‘Cap and will be vanned from his home at Golden Gate Fields.
“He’ll be checked out after that last work and if everything’s OK, ship early Wednesday and arrive at Santa Anita around noon,” said Dan Ward, assistant to the Hall of Fame trainer.
The 4-year-old gelding, who is ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, was timed in 1:00.40 for a five-furlong workout this past Tuesday.
Shared Belief defeated 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome in the San Antonio Invitational on Feb. 7 as both horses began their 2015 campaigns. “Chrome” is slated start in the $10 million Dubai World Cup on March 28.
Shared Belief, the 2013 champion 2-year-old male, has won nine of 10 career starts for $2,332,200.
