Shared Belief excels in workout for San Antonio
Berkeley, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Champion gelding Shared Belief registered another workout Wednesday morning ahead of his debut race on Feb. 7 in the San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita.
Trained and co-owned by Jerry Hollendorfer, Shared Belief worked six furlongs over Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic main track in 1:13.20.
“Shared Belief had an excellent work this morning! Jerry Hollendorfer tells us Shared is doing great mentally and physically and that he’s right on track for next month’s San Antonio. Let’s see how he comes out it. 6F in 1:13 1/5,” co-owner Jungle Racing posted on its Facebook page.
Shared Belief was a finalist for 2014 champion 3-year-old. He finished third in the voting behind California Chrome, last year’s Horse of the Year as well, and Bayern.
“No Eclipse Award this year, but we couldn’t be more proud of Shared Belief and the campaign he had. He showed unbelievable heart and courage in every single one of his races in 2014. We couldn’t be more proud of him or more thankful for this incredible ride. Saying he’s one in a million doesn’t begin to do him justice. BEST DUDE EVER,” Jungle Racing posted.
The gelding has won eight of nine career starts for $2,032,200. He closed his 2014 campaign with a hard fought victory in Santa Anita’s Malibu Stakes on Dec. 26.
Shared Belief finished fourth in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 1 behind Bayern. He posted wins in 2014 in the Los Alamitos Derby, Pacific Classic and Awesome Again Stakes. A foot injury prevented the gelding from competing in the Triple Crown races. Shared Belief began 2014 with an allowance victory at Golden Gate Fields on May 26.
