Royals’ Cain lands on DL
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder Lorenzo Cain on the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros.
Cain exited Wednesday’s 6-4 win over the Astros in the 10th inning after straining his left groin. The 28-year-old was off to a strong start this season, hitting a team-best .333 (14-of-42) with five RBI while starting 12 of the Royals’ 13 games in center field.
Left-handed pitcher Justin Marks was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to fill the available roster spot.
Marks made one start and a pair of relief appearances for the Storm Chasers prior to Thursday’s promotion, allowing seven runs — three earned — and five walks with eight strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings.
