Royals add Vargas to rotation
Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) – The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent pitcher Jason Vargas to a four-year contract on Thursday.
The deal is reportedly worth $32 million.
Vargas went 9-8 with a 4.02 earned run average in 24 starts for the Angels last season. He missed almost two months in his lone campaign with Los Angeles after having surgery to remove a blood clot in his left armpit.
The Angels acquired the southpaw in a trade with Seattle last December.
Vargas, who turns 31 in February, has compiled a 51-58 career record with a 4.30 ERA in 154 starts and 20 relief appearances. He was a staple of the Mariners’ rotation during his four years with the club.
