Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Ron the Greek, winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup, will be withdrawn from Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic with an injury.

“Ron the Greek’s out; he’s got a quarter crack. Long-term it’s not a problem, but he’s not going to run in the Classic,” Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott told Bloodhorse.com

The 6-year-old, fourth in last year’s Classic, was 8-1 in the morning-line and drew post 11 in the 12-horse field.

Owned by Brous Stable, Wachtel Stable, Jack Hammer and Gary Barber, Ron the Greek has earned $2,704,691 in 29 career starts with nine wins.

The veteran racehorse began 2013 by winning the Florida Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream Park. However, he failed to find the winner’s circle through five other races.

Ron the Greek was fourth in the Santa Anita Classic followed by thirds in the Charles Town Classic and Stephen Foster. He then finished fourth in both the Whitney and Woodward.
