Report: Jets’ Smith missed meeting Saturday night
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith reportedly missed team meetings Saturday, the day before a 31-0 loss at San Diego.
The New York Daily News cited a team spokesman as saying Smith made an “honest mistake” and arrived 5-10 minutes after the meetings ended. He went over details with offensive coaches afterward.
Smith was benched in the second half of Sunday’s loss after a disastrous opening 30 minutes in which he completed just 4-of-12 passes for 27 yards with an interception.
Michael Vick played the second half for New York and wasn’t much better, throwing for 47 yards on 8-of-19 passing while adding 14 yards on two rushes.
The Jets fell to 1-4 with their fourth straight loss and Jets coach Rex Ryan said after the contest that Smith would remain the starter for next week’s game against Denver.
