Remy to miss remainder of season’s Red Sox broadcasts
Boston, MA (Sports Network) – Longtime Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy will miss the remainder of the team’s games for this season.
Remy, a former Red Sox second baseman who is a color analyst on team broadcasts on the New England Sports Network, will remain with his family.
Remy’s son, 34-year-old Jared, has pleaded not guilty to murdering his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, earlier this month.
“I am full of grief for the Martel family,” Remy said in a statement issued by NESN. “My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to them. My wife and I are sick about this senseless tragedy. It’s clear this isn’t the time for me to return to broadcasting Red Sox games. It’s my hope that I can do so in the spring. I thank NESN and the Red Sox for their support through this nightmare.”
