Red Sox bring Masterson back to Boston
San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Boston Red Sox continued to be active on Thursday, as they have reportedly signed right-hander Justin Masterson to a one-year deal.
Boston also acquired righty Rick Porcello from the Detroit Tigers on Thursday and are apparently working toward a deal that would also land them lefty Wade Miley.
USA Today reported that Masterson will earn $9 million this season.
Masterson started his career with the Red Sox and pitched parts of two seasons there before being sent to Cleveland for Victor Martinez in 2009.
The 29-year-old sinkerballer was an All-Star for the Tribe in 2013, but struggled last season and was eventually dealt to St. Louis at the non-waiver trade deadline. He was 7-9 combined last season with a 5.88 ERA in 28 games (25 starts).
Masterson is 60-72 lifetime with a 4.24 ERA in 240 games (175 starts) for the Red Sox, Indians and Cardinals.
