Rangers’ Scheppers goes on DL with elbow inflammation
Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Tanner Scheppers on the 15-day disabled list Friday with right elbow inflammation.
Scheppers has struggled during his first stint as a starter in the majors, going 0-1 with a sky-high earned run average of 9.82 over four outings. He has allowed 20 runs and 27 hits in 18 1/3 innings.
The 27-year-old was 6-2 with a 1.88 ERA in 76 relief appearances for the Rangers last season.
To fill Scheppers’ place on the active roster, the club purchased the contract of pitcher Aaron Poreda from Triple-A Round Rock. Infielder Andy Parrino was designated for assignment to clear a spot for Poreda on the 40-man roster.
