Rangers’ Perez to have Tommy John surgery
Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) – Texas Rangers left-hander Martin Perez said Saturday he will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Perez will have the procedure to replace a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow on Monday, according to MLB.com.
He was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and will likely need at least a year to recover.
Perez struggled mightily in each of his last three starts, giving up 19 runs on 24 hits and 10 walks in 13 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old was 4-0 with a 1.42 ERA in his first five starts this season.
