Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) – The Texas Rangers activated pitcher Joe Saunders from the 15-day disabled list among a flurry of roster moves on Wednesday.

Saunders will start Wednesday night’s game against Minnesota. He will make his second start of the season after leaving his season debut on April 4 against Tampa Bay.

The left-hander sustained a stress fracture in his left ankle against the Rays when he was struck in the ankle by Evan Longoria’s line drive in the fourth inning. He surrendered five runs — four earned — on six hits over 3 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.

In 10 seasons, Saunders has compiled an 89-82 record with a 4.31 ERA across 222 games — all starts — with the Angels, Diamondbacks, Orioles, Mariners, and Rangers.

Texas also optioned pitcher Aaron Poreda to Triple-A Round Rock and claimed pitcher Phil Irwin from Pittsburgh off waivers and optioned him to Round Rock.

Poreda has gone 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Rangers since having his contract purchased on April 18.

Irwin went 1-2 with an 8.72 ERA in 10 games this season for Triple-A Indianapolis.
