Rafael Bejarano continues recuperating for Del Mar opening
Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Veteran jockey Rafael Bejarano is on schedule to resume riding when Del Mar opens on Thursday, July 17.
Bejarano, who suffered multiple injuries in a racing accident on May 10, is continuing his rehab.
“He presently is in therapy for a week and a half and is scheduled to ride at Del Mar opening day,” said his agent, Joe Ferrer.
The 32-year-old had a broken collarbone, two broken scapulas and four broken ribs as a result of the accident at Santa Anita. His mount, Gameboy Luke, went down entering the stretch of a 6 1/2-furlong turf race.
“A few days before Del Mar I’ll start exercising and working horses,” said Bejarano.
This year, Bejarano has won 98 races from 413 mounts for $4,922,434.
