Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) – The Detroit Pistons have acquired center Joel Anthony from the Boston Celtics in exchange for guard Will Bynum.
Anthony has averaged 2.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 403 NBA games with the Celtics and Miami Heat. He played six full seasons with the Heat and was dealt to Boston last January.
The 32-year-old UNLV product was a member of Miami’s NBA championship teams in 2012 and 2013.
“We are pleased to welcome Joel Anthony to the organization,” said Pistons general manager Jeff Bower in a statement Friday. “Joel is an experienced frontcourt player who adds size, toughness and depth to our frontcourt. We thank Will Bynum for his contributions and wish him the best in the future.”
Bynum spent the past six seasons with the Pistons after playing one season with Golden State and two years in Israel. The 31-year-old Georgia Tech product owns career averages of 8.2 points and 3.3 assists in 353 games.
