Pirates summon Cumpton for Memorial Day start
Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) – The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled pitcher Brandon Cumpton from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Monday’s game against the New York Mets.
The right-hander is taking the spot in the rotation that belonged to Wandy Rodriguez, who was designated for assignment last week.
Cumpton, 25, will be making his third start this season for the Pirates. He was leading the International League with a 1.35 ERA at the time of his promotion.
To make room for Cumpton on the 25-man roster, Pittsburgh designated pitcher Vin Mazzaro for assignment.
