Pirates place P Grilli on DL

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) – The Pittsburgh Pirates placed pitcher Jason Grilli on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a left oblique strain.

Grilli has appeared in eight games this season going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA, while converting four of his seven save opportunities.

Pittsburgh recalled pitcher Jared Hughes from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill the vacated roster spot.

Hughes is 1-0 with the Pirates with just one inning pitched this season. He hasn’t allowed a run over six relief appearances at Indianapolis this season, going 1-0 with four saves and seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of work.
