Pirates activate Gomez
Seattle, WA (Sports Network) – The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated pitcher Jeanmar Gomez off the 15-day disabled list.
Gomez, scheduled to start Wednesday against Seattle, had been sidelined since early June with a strained right forearm. He last pitched on June 2, leaving a start against Cincinnati after just one inning.
The 25-year-old right-hander enters Wednesday’s game with a record of 2-0 and a 3.07 ERA in 12 appearances, including seven starts.
Pittsburgh optioned pitcher Duke Welker to Triple-A Indianapolis to open a roster spot. Welker threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in two outings after being recalled last week.
