Peterson keeps IBF light welterweight title

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) – Lamont Peterson thrilled the home crowd by keeping his IBF light welterweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Dierry Jean at the DC Armory Saturday night.

Peterson (32-2, 16 KOs), who won by scores of 118-111, 116-112 and 115-113, bounced back from a third-round TKO defeat to Lucas Martin Matthysse in May of last year. That fight counted as a successful title defense by Matthysse by the WBC, but Peterson’s championship was not on the line.

Peterson landed more than 100 more punches than Jean (25-1, 17 KOs), who makes his home in Montreal. Jean, who entered the ring wearing a classic Quebec Nordiques NHL jersey, took a solid left to the face in the fifth round that slowed his progress. He was dominated in the middle rounds of the fight.
