Pedroia has successful surgery on thumb
Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) – Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb.
The 30-year-old two-time World Series champion hit .301 with nine home runs, 42 doubles and drove in 84 runs last season, earning him an All-Star selection and Gold Glove.
Pedroia added 15 hits in 63 at-bats (.238) along with seven RBI in 16 postseason outings for the Red Sox.
