ARIZONA: Ka’Deem Carey got back on the field as the Wildcats blasted UNLV, 58-13. Carey did not play in the first game of the season but broke off a 58- yard touchdown run on his first carry last weekend. With 30 career touchdowns, Carey is currently second in program history. In all Carey had 171 yards and two scores on 16 carries. Carey has 11 100-yard rushing games in his career. Arizona scored 45 points in the first half, the most in a half for the Wildcats since scoring 49 against Idaho in 2008. The 58 points scored by the Wildcats was the most in a road game since 2008. Arizona had 478 yards of total offense and six red zone opportunities, while holding UNLV to 282 yards and no trips to the red zone. Daniel Jenkins rushed for 82 yards and B.J. Denker had 60 yards and a pair of scores on the ground, while also throwing for 81 yards on 8-of-21 passing. Tra’Mayne Bondurant returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown as he picked off his third pass of the season. The Wildcats will be back in action in Tucson against Texas-San Antonio next.

ARIZONA STATE: The Sun Devils opened their season with an easy 55-0 win over FCS foe Sacramento State in a Thursday night matchup. Arizona State scored touchdowns on its first five possessions and compiled 523 yards of total offense. Arizona State has now outscored its opponents 159-69 in the first quarter under head coach Tod Graham. Taylor Kelly completed 23-of-31 pass attempts for an even 300 yards and five touchdowns, tying a career-high. Jaelen Strong caught six passes for 58 yards and a touchdown to lead all receivers. Marion Grice picked up 124 all-purpose yards, scoring a touchdown both on the ground and through the air. Chris Coyle had just two receptions but picked up 48 yards and a score on the two catches. Kevin Ozier caught a single pass for 41 yards and a touchdown. Arizona State only allowed 167 yards to the Hornets, while forcing four turnovers. Grandville Taylor tied for a team-high with four tackles, recording a fumble recovery and an interception. Next up for the Sun Devils is a non-conference showdown at home against Wisconsin.

CALIFORNIA: It wasn’t easy but California got its first win of the Sonny Dykes era with a 37-30 victory over FCS foe Portland State. The Golden Bears once again looked strong on offense, totaling 616 total yards, but they also let up 553 yards to the visiting Vikings. California also surrendered touchdowns on Portland State’s first four drives, but held Portland State scoreless in the last six possessions. Jared Goff threw for 485 yards and two scores, completing 33-of-51 pass attempts. Goff is the second Cal quarterback to throw for 400 yards in back-to-back games and the first since Pat Barnes in 1996. Goff was sacked five times in the contest. Bryce Treggs caught a game-high eight passes for 121 yards. Richard Rodgers had four receptions for 100 yards. Khalfani Muhammad caught four passes for 85 yards and also rushed for 68 yards while scoring his first career touchdown. Brendan Bigelow rushed for 75 yards on 18 carries, both team-highs. California has a big test in Berkeley next week when the Ohio State Buckeyes come to town.

COLORADO: For the first time since 2008, the Colorado Buffaloes are 2-0 after posting a 38-24 win over FCS foe Central Arkansas. Paul Richardson was the star of the game as he tied a school record with 11 receptions for 209 yards and two scores. Richardson’s effort was just the fifth 200-yard receiving game in program history. Connor Wood was throwing to Richardson, as he completed 23-of-36 pass attempts for 341 yards and three touchdowns, although he was picked off twice and sacked four times. Nelson Spruce caught the other touchdown, totaling four receptions for 62 yards. Tony Jones led the team in rushing with 58 yards on 12 carries. On defense Colorado allowed just 340 yards and 4.2 yards per play. Through the first two games Colorado has held teams to 4.2 yards per play on first down after averaging nearly eight yards allowed on first down last season. John Major caught one of two interceptions and also recorded seven tackles as one of four players to have at least seven stops. Major’s interception ended a 267-pass opponent attempt streak without an interception for Colorado. Next on the schedule for Colorado is a home game with Fresno State.

OREGON: Thanks to explosive showings from both De’Anthony Thomas and Marcus Mariota, the Ducks moved to 2-0 with an easy, 59-10, road win over Virginia. Mariota threw for 199 yards and two scores and also rushed for 122 yards including a 71-yard touchdown run. Mariota, who completed 14-of-28 pass attempts, is the first quarterback in program history to rush for 100 yards in back-to-back games. He has also thrown for a touchdown in 15 straight games. Thomas racked up 124 yards and three scores on the ground, tying a career-high for touchdowns in a game. Oregon finished with 557 yards of total offense while scoring on 5-of-6 attempts in the red zone. Dior Mathis recorded the longest interception return in program history without returning it for a touchdown with a 97-yard return. His interception was one of three on the day for the Ducks, who held Virginia to 298 yards of total offense. Derick Malone had a game-high 12 tackles. Oregon will host Tennessee in its final non- conference game of the season next Saturday.

OREGON STATE: A week after dropping out of the national rankings following a loss to FCS foe Eastern Washington, the Beavers got back on track with a 33-14 win at home over Hawaii. For the second time this season, and in his career, Brandin Cooks scored a pair of receiving touchdowns. Cooks finished with seven receptions for 92 yards. Storm Woods rushed for 50 yards on 17 carries and also added 95 yards on seven receptions. Sean Mannion completed 31-of-43 pass attempts for 372 yards and four scores, but was intercepted once. Mannion has thrown for more than 350 yards five times in his career. Defensively, Oregon State allowed just 239 yards of offense to Hawaii, including just 69 on the ground. The Beavers limited the Rainbow Warriors to just a single red zone trip and a 1-of-11 success rate on third down. Mana Rosa led the team with seven tackles, while Steven Nelson collected an interception and four stops. Pac-12 play opens up for Oregon State next week against Utah.

STANFORD: Stanford kicked off the 2013 season with a 34-13 win over San Jose State on Saturday. The Cardinal were off during the opening weekend but with the win on Saturday have now won nine straight games at home, while going 25-3 since the start of the 2007 season. Stanford is also 33-8 overall since 2009. Stanford scored on each of its first three possessions and totaled 404 yards of offense. Tyler Gaffney rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, while Anthony Wilkerson picked up 65 yards on nine carries. Gaffney last had two touchdowns in a game in 2010. Kevin Hogan completed a touchdown pass to Ty Montgomery and Devon Cajuste, completing 17-fo-27 pass attempts overall for 207 yards. Stanford posted four sacks, two by Trent Murphy, and limited the Spartans to 251 yards of offense and a 3.7 yards-per-play average. Ed Reynolds had 12 tackles and an interception. Stanford will face Army in West Point in its next matchup.

UCLA: A week after rolling to a 58-20 win over Nevada and climbing to No. 18 in the AP Top 25, the Bruins were off this past Saturday. UCLA, which moved up to No. 16 in the most recent poll, gets back to action this Saturday on the road against Nebraska.

USC: Another season has started with early disappointment for the Trojans, who fell in a 10-7 decision against Washington State. The game was the Pac-12 opener for each team. USC finished the game with just 193 yards of total offense, including a paltry 54 yards through the air. The seven points USC scored in the loss tied for the fewest it has scored in a contest in the last 10 years. Cody Kessler completed just 8-of-13 pass attempts for 41 yards. Kessler’s interception in the second quarter was returned 70 yards for a touchdown by Washington State’s Damante Horton. The Trojans did get a strong effort from Tre Madden, who rushed for 151 yards on 32 carries. Marqise Lee caught seven passes for just 27 yards. USC, which was No. 25 in the AP Top 25 entering the game, dropped out of the national rankings this week. USC will be in Los Angeles again on Saturday against Boston College.

UTAH: For the first time since 1973, Utah scored at least 70 points in a game with a 70-7 rout of FCS foe Weber State. The Utes did most of their damage in the second quarter when they scored 35 points, the most in a single period for them since 1968. Utah finished with 628 yards of total offense while limiting Weber State to just 205. Utah’s defense was also backed up in its own territory just twice. Travis Wilson completed 14-of-19 pass attempts for 264 yards and three touchdowns, including an 80-yard strike to Sean Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald caught two touchdown passes in the game. Wilson also rushed for 93 yards and two scores, while Lucky Radley had 111 yards and two scores on 13 carries. Radley’s output was a career-high. Dres Anderson had four catches for 103 yards and a touchdown. Tenny Palepoi had eight tackles including 1.5 sacks, to anchor the defense. Utah will get into its conference schedule next Saturday when it plays host to Oregon State.

WASHINGTON: The Huskies had a well deserved week off after knocking off then No. 19 Boise State in the season opener. Now Washington will look to get out to a 2-0 mark on Saturday against Illinois.

WASHINGTON STATE: Saturday was a historic day for the Cougars, who defeated USC, 10-7, in Los Angeles. The win was the first for Washington State against USC since 2002 and the first on the road since 2000. The Cougars scored just three points on offense, with Andre Furney’s 41-yard field goal with just over three minutes to play accounting for the lone score. Damante Horton returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown for the Cougars’ only other score. Horton collected two interceptions in the game, with the last coming with 2:18 remaining in the fourth quarter on USC’s final possession. Daquawn Brown had 11 tackles and Justin Sagote added 10. Washington State had just 222 yards of total offense itself. Connor Halliday threw for 215 of those yards on 26-of-38 passing, though he was intercepted twice. Washington State will play a non- league game against Southern Utah next weekend.
