Oklahoma QB Knight out for Saturday
Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) – Oklahoma starting quarterback Trevor Knight will not play in Saturday’s game at Texas Tech due to a neck injury he sustained in the Sooners’ last outing.
Knight was taken off on a stretcher after being sacked on fourth down during the Sooners’ 48-14 loss to No. 6 Baylor on Saturday. Head coach Bob Stoops announced Thursday that the redshirt sophomore has yet to be medically cleared to participate this weekend.
Redshirt freshman Cody Thomas will make his first career start in Knight’s place against the Red Raiders. Thomas has seen action in four games this season, completing 7-of-16 passes for 50 yards and an interception.
Knight went just 12-for-27 for 146 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the Baylor loss. He has thrown for 2,197 yards and 14 touchdowns with nine picks this season, his first as a full-time starter for the Sooners.
Oklahoma dropped out of the Top 25 with Saturday’s result and fell to 3-3 in Big 12 play with the loss.
