Fort Erie, ON (SportsNetwork.com) – Nominations closed Tuesday with 11 Canadian-bred 3-year-olds named to the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie.

The 1 3/16-mile Prince of Wales will be contested Tuesday, July 29. The stakes is the second leg of Canada’s Triple Crown. There has not been a Triple Crown champ since Wando in 2003. The Triple Crown also includes the Queen’s Plate and Breeders’ Stakes, both run at Woodbine.

Not among the nominated is Queen’s Plate winner Lexie Lou. The filly, trained by Mark Casse, won the 1 1/4-mile stakes by 1 1/2 lengths in 2:03.94 over Woodbine’s synthetic main track.

Leading the nominations is Plate runner-up Ami’s Holiday. Ami’s Holiday, trained by Josie Carroll, has two wins and two seconds in seven career starts for $423,460. The colt was fourth in this year’s Lexington Stakes at Keeneland. He finished third in Woodbine’s Marine Stakes on May 25, but was placed second after a disqualification.

Peachtree Stable’s Lynx is coming off a second-place finish to Albano in Monmouth Park’s Pegasus Stakes. Trained by Cathal Lynch, Lynx made his first four career starts at Woodbine, but did not break his maiden until May 25 at Parx Racing.

Casse has nominated a pair of 3-year-olds to the Prince of Wales, East Side and Matador. East Side, owned by Stoneway Farm, would be making his stakes debut after finding the winner’s circle in his third start last month. Matador, owned by John Oxley, was seventh in the Plate and won Woodbine’s Cup and Saucer Stakes last year.
