NCAA College Football Recap: Week 4

So much great stuff went down in college football this weekend that it was hard to pick the ones we thought were the top three. Here are the games that made it.

Notre Dame 20, Michigan State 3
Everyone wondered which quarterback would step out onto the field for Notre Dame — Rees, or Golson. But having something to prove after being pulled from last night’s game, Golson was not only the QB that played, but a QB with a difference. Golson led his 20th-ranked team to a crushing victory over a team that sits at Number 10. It broke the losing streak the Fighting Irish have been on; and it’s the first time in 7 years that they’ve beat the Spartans.

Penn State 34, Navy 7
Okay so it’s the Navy team and while they hold a special place in our hearts, they’re not really known for their football. And this is why it’s not surprising that Penn State took the victory. Matt McGloin threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns; and Allen Robinson had 136 yards and three scores. It may not have been a major win, but it is the first for Nittany Lions’ head coach Bill O’Brien. His players helped him celebrate it by dousing him with a bucket of water in the final seconds of the game.

Stanford 21, USC 14
On Saturday night Stanford swarmed onto the field facing a much higher-ranked team, and they won. Stanford was down 14-7 at halftime, but it was clear that they were dominating from the very start. USC quarterback Matt Barkley has never taken a game against Stanford, and he wasn’t given a chance this weekend either. He did manage to squeak in 254 yards, but with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Meanwhile, Josh Nunes was throwing for 215 yards for Stanford, and he scored two touchdowns. It’s clear that Stanford doesn’t need Luck. They’ve still got everything it takes to be a winning football team.
