NCAA College Football Recap: Week 14

This week saw the end of regular season in college football, which means that some teams are left waiting until next year when they try again. Others though are gearing up for bowl season, and Saturday saw many punch their ticket to theirs.

(2) Alabama 32, (3) Georgia 28
Georgia scored more points against Alabama than any other team was able to this year, but the Crimson Tide did not let that stop them. But even with a poorer than average showing on offense, Alabama still capitalized on the Bulldogs‘ defensive mistakes. The biggest one came when Chris Conley grabbed the ball at the time of scrimmage instead of letting it drop and stopping on the clock. Although the Bulldogs were already down in score it was a fatal move for Georgia, and sends Alabama to the national title game to play Notre Dame.

(7) Kansas State 42, (23) Texas 24
Kansas State has a very good record over the Texas Longhorns, and on Saturday it was no different. Texas went into this game already down, as they were playing without starting quarterback David Ash. Case McCoy, who stepped in for Ash, had an excellent night throwing for 314 yards and two touchdowns. But their game on the ground never took off, and it was this that allowed Kansas State to steam their way ahead to the Fiesta Bowl.

(8) Stanford 27, (17) UCLA 24
Two very good teams, a very close score, and this game was a nail-biter all the way to the finish. Both teams played excellently, with Stanford’s quarterback Kevin Hogan throwing for 157 yards, rushing for 47 yards, and a touchdown. Meanwhile Stepfan Taylor put in 133 total yards himself, and set the school record for 4,212. UCLA’s running back Johnathan Franklin on the other hand, ran for 194 yards and two touchdowns. No team ever seemed to dominate the other, but it was Ka’imi Fairbairn’s missed 52 yard kick that sends Stanford onto the Rose Bowl.
