NCAA College Football Recap: Week 12

The biggest story line coming out of week 12 in college football is that Notre Dame is sitting pretty at number one — and their performance against Wake Forest on Saturday certainly earned it. Kansas State, who formerly sat in the top spot, has fallen to number two after a terrible showing against Baylor; and Stanford came out with a huge upset against Oregon.

(11) Stanford 17, (5) Oregon 14 (OT)
Oregon went into this game against Stanford as one of the three undefeated teams left, but their poor offensive showing, and Stanford’s outstanding performance on defense, has now taken that away. Kenjon Barner, who’s serious competition for the Heisman this year, didn’t score at all and was held to just 66 yards. Meanwhile, Stanford’s Stepfan Taylor rushed for 161 yards, which was a huge contribution to the win.

Baylor 52, (7) Kansas State 24
Kansas State was also undefeated before Saturday’s game, and they also sat in the number one spot. What happened during Saturday’s game is anybody’s guess, but Kansas State was terrible all around. They were held to just 76 yards on the ground, and against Baylor’s defense, which was known as one of the worst in the nation before Saturday’s game. Collin Klein, the Wildcats’ quarterback, threw three interceptions, which could cost him a place as a Heisman runner; and the team lost their chances at the national title.

(1) Notre Dame 38, Wake Forest 0
All 60 college ball pollsters voted the Fighting Irish as number one in the country after their spectacular performance against Wake Forest on Saturday. Not one of the toughest opponents in the league to be sure, but they still put in an impressive showing. Everett Golson threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the meanwhile; and the total offense took a whopping 584 yards. After Saturday, Notre Dame isn’t just the top team in the country — they’re also the only one that remains undefeated.
