NCAA College Football Recap: Week 10

A new possible Heisman contender emerges out of Texas A&M, A.J. McCarron led his team to an emotional victory over LSU, and UCLA clings to their chances of playing in the Rose Bowl game. These are just some of the best highlights from this week’s college football!

(16) Texas A&M 38, (17) Mississippi State 13
Texas A&M quarterback, Johnny Manziel, may not have garnered too much attention so far this year, but that could only be because he’s not playing for one of the top-ranked teams. That certainly looked to be the case on Saturday when he completed 30 of 36 passes for 311 yards, ran for 129 yards, and scored two touchdowns. Throughout it all, he ducked around the Bulldogs’ defense and was the reason the Aggies were up by 21 points in the second quarter. If people aren’t talking about Manziel by now, they should be. He’s put Texas A&M on the map this year.

(25) UCLA 66, (24) Arizona 10
After this definitive win on Saturday, UCLA made their argument for a Rose Bowl berth in the New Year — and everyone had a hand in it. Running back Johnathan Franklin rushed for 162 yards, while quarterback Brett Hundley passed for 288 yards, and scored three touchdowns. The win gives UCLA a chance to get into the Rose Bowl — and that’s something they haven’t experienced in 14 years. All they have to do now is win their last three games and the Pac-12 championship. With the way they’ve been playing the past few weeks, there’s a very good chance they’re going to do it.

(1) Alabama 21, (5) LSU 17
Before this game of the year, Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron vowed that he would not let his team lose. That seemed to be an empty promise, as Alabama had a shaky first half, and only proceeded to get worse in the second. But McCarron must have remembered his word in the last minute, because with only 51 seconds on the clock he flipped the script on LSU. The Tigers seemed to be on track, and their defense was about to give McCarron a sack he’d remember all through this week. But McCarron was too quick for them. Judging the scenario perfectly, he passed to T.J. Yeldon, who ran the rest of the 28 yards to score a touchdown, and put Alabama up on the scoreboard just when they needed it. And the tears in McCarron’s eyes at the end of the game spoke volumes of how important this game was for the entire team.
