NCAA College Football Preview: Week 14

Well, this is it. It’s the last week of the regular season in college football. And while The Irish have given us two huge wins to talk about over the last two weeks, we now move on to see who will face them in the national title, and who will have to wait for next year.

(2) Alabama vs. (3) Georgia
Either of these teams has a shot to take it all and go all the way to the national title facing The Irish. And this game is going to be pretty equal down the board, including the neutral location it’s being played at. Both teams are even at 11-1, with Alabama’s defense leading the country in both total defense and scoring. However Georgia is on a streak right now with six wins in a row, and a quarterback that leads the league in passing. If the Bulldogs take this one, it’s being called an “upset,” but let’s not kid ourselves. They sit at #3, which means a win won’t be easy coming for The Crimson Tide.

(17) UCLA at (8) Stanford
There’s a lot on the line in this Pac-12 championship game. Not only is UCLA looking for revenge after losing to Stanford 35-17 last week, but now the Rose Bowl is just within their reach, too; and they’ll have to work very hard to make it. Stanford has beaten UCLA in their last four meetings; and last week they held Bruins’ running back, Johnathan Franklin, to just 65 yards. Stepfan Taylor however, had 142 yards for the Cardinals, as well as two scores. And Stanford has won their last 19 out of 20 games at home. A win for UCLA would be a true upset, but it’s something that’s not likely to happen.

(23) Texas at (7) Kansas State
This definitely won’t be the most exciting game this season, as Kansas State has quickly fallen from the number one spot they held just a few weeks ago. But trouble with the quarterback on both sides of the ball will bring a bit of drama on both sides. The Wildcat’s Collin Klein had the worst game of his career last week; but with the Fiesta Bowl on the line, and the team’s first Big 12 title in almost a decade, he may just go back to the sharp performance we saw from him earlier in the year. As for Texas, David Ash hasn’t exactly been on point lately either, but he won’t even be playing due to a rib injury he sustained last week. In his play will be Case McCoy, who hasn’t started since the final game last year. If he can lead his team to victory like he did then, he may just emerge as the hero of the day.
