NCAA College Football Preview: Week 10
Alabama and LSU face off against each other one more time, and it’s the event that everyone’s looking forward to in college ball this weekend. But that’s not all the schedule’s got lined up. The second-seeded team, Oregon, faces a hurting Southern California team right now; and Kansas State is playing host to Oklahoma State.
(1) Alabama at (5) LSU
This is a long-running rivalry between two teams that battled it out all year long last year for that top ranked spot. While LSU looked like they deserved it more all year long, Alabama has gotten much more depth, looked far sharper any time they’ve taken the field, and really focused on the ball. It’s these traits that have them undefeated this season; while the Tigers have just struggled to get out of 9th place. LSU can still play the title game if they win this one, but that’s going to be tough for them.
(4) Oregon at (17) USC
The Oregon Ducks are undefeated so far this year. And the last time they lost was to USC last year. If the Trojans want to see that happen again they need to figure out how to beat the team that many are calling the best in the country, despite their fourth-tier ranking. Oregon has an outstanding defense, and there are fewer college quarterbacks in the country that are quite as fast as Marcus Mariota. If USC wants to emerge victorious, they need to find a way to deal with both of these factors. And quick.
(24) Oklahoma State at (2) Kansas State
Kansas State is in a complicated position. They are the second-ranked team in the country and they’re also undefeated this season. All things should look rosy. But the problem is that Alabama, Notre Dame, and Alabama are all also undefeated this year — and they’re all vying for that trip to the national title game. If those other three teams play as exceptionally well as they have been, they could potentially snatch the chance away from the Wildcats. All Kansas State can really do on Saturday is play hard, aim for perfection, and hope it works out for them. The rest is really out of their hands.
