The 2014 NBA All Star Game will mark the 63rd annual All-Star event. It is going to be played on February 16, 2014 in New Orleans at the New Orleans arena. This is actually going to be the second time the city will be holding the game. They held their first event in 2008. The game has quite a long and interesting history. It started in Boston Garden in 1951. As with other similar exhibition games for other sports, the fans are the ones who are choosing the starting lineup of players who are going to be playing in the game. Coaches will then vote for the reserves. However, they can’t vote for players on their team.

The coaches for the teams will be the ones who have the best record in their conference. However, the same coach cannot serve as the All Star head coach for two seasons in a row. The reason this rule is in place is because of Pat Riley, former coach of the Lakers, who won the right to coach the All Star team for 8 of 9 seasons! Now, if the coach with the winning record is a repeat from the previous year, they go to the coach with the second highest record.

These games are generally a bit longer than their regular NBA counterparts too. They often have special musical guests who perform at the event during halftime. This adds more time to the overall length of the game.

One of the other differences that you are likely going to note with these games is the way the offense and the defense plays. Typically, the defense is going to take things a bit easy. This gives all of the players a chance to show off their skills with some fun alley oops and slam dunks. Of course, this usually means that the score is quite a bit higher. Fans who want to see their favorite players put on a show certainly do not mind though.

If you love basketball and want to see a gathering of the best players in the world today, make sure you buy NBA All Star Game tickets soon. They go fast!
